Andrea Schell
My work is grounded in observational drawing and painting, informed by the rich traditions of art history, particularly still life and the figure. In my oil paintings, I explore the formal elements of colour, composition, and spatial dynamics, and how these factors interact across the picture plane. My drawing practice includes regular life drawing, self-portraiture, and sketching people and places from everyday life.I also create prints, particularly linocuts and monotypes, often using imagery from my sketches and paintings as a resource. Working across these mediums allows me to expand on recurring themes and ideas, reinterpreting them through new processes and materials.
