Jean Astbury

I work in painting, installation and mixed media sculpture. I graduated from Curtin University in 1992 with a bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture. My early work was exhibited at PICA and I had a piece in the Tate Gallery in 1999. Locally, I’ve exhibited at the Bunbury Biennale in 2007 and 2009, and Blooming Art in 2010. I received the Worsley Art Prize in both 2006 And 2007 at the South West Survey. My last major group exhibition was at Heathcote Gallery in Applecross.I have has several hiatuses in my art career due to further study - a Bachelor of Philosophy from Murdoch University - as well as extended travel, career and family commitments. Art takes time and my time had been spent on other rewarding projects. Currently I have been back in the studio painting. I am continuing to work with bird images but am enjoying painting. My focus is on colour and light and I am interested to see the surrealist emerge in me.
