Mellie's Ceramics
I am an artist working in oil painting and ceramics. My practice is rooted in observation, memory, and play — a dialogue between the natural world and my inner world. My oil paintings begin with photographs I take while immersed in nature. These images are not just references, but invitations — a way of pausing, noticing, and later translating what I’ve seen into something slower and more tactile. Through paint, I explore not only the visible textures of the landscape, but also its emotional undercurrents: stillness, wonder, impermanence. My ceramics come from a different kind of memory — one held in the hands. They recall my childhood, when I built with mud, shaping the earth with instinct and imagination. These pieces are often playful, imperfect, and deeply personal. In working with clay, I reconnect with a freer, more intuitive part of myself — my inner child — who continues to guide my practice today.Whether with brush or clay, I create from a place of curiosity and care. My work is an invitation to look closely, feel deeply, and remember the joy of making with our own hands.
